i have had this shark for about a week or two now and all he dose is sit in his coner.. is this normal for this type of shark or is there somethign im doign wrong...i keep my tank at about 80-77 F ans lots of stuff for him to swim around

these are extremely shy and skittish fish that grow huge....well about a foot...and should be in at least groups of 3 plus, what size tank have you got?

You should have at LEAST a 90g tank to house them properly, they can grow to 14 inches long and need to be in groups. Please take him back to the store, they are not for beginners! Bala sharks (another name) should be very active, they are very fast swimmers when healthy.

okay i will take him back first thing in the morning..do you have any suggestions for other fish that look skimalry to him? i like the look he has.

Unfortunately, no, I don't have any other suggestions. I did the same thing a while ago, too. I really like their look as well though, I'm definately gonna get some when I get older and have my own tank. Most 'sharks' either are aggressive, or grow huge... or both!

well thanks very much!! but i must ask one question..i am looking for a new tank right now..and your sayign a 90 can hold these sharks. this one is about 2inchs big, can i hold him in my
30 gallon tank for 2 weeks or so till i get a new 90 gallon?

Yeah, it'll be okay, assuming it's not bothered by the other inhabitants. But WOW, you're getting a 90g tank, lol! Don't forget the new tank has to cycle, though!

yeah i'v been saving my lunch money :p! Since i'd posted this earlier today i'd read alot about these type of sharks and i found out that he a school fish..this is why he is hiding in the coner..But i'v noitce at night he is out and moving around alot! ( then i turn my room light on and the tank light is off) i see him swimming around as the others are sleeping..and i have fish ready and plants for cycle you have been a great help. Knowing my self il prolly be asking somethign esle torrmow but i guess you can never ask too much

Yup, it's good that your asking questions :p It's kind of strange that he comes out at night, I guess he just feels safer. Has he eaten anything? If not, try feeding him while he's out, by slowly opening the lid, no sudden movements. I'm pretty sure you could have 3 in a 90g. I'm not totally sure though. You may want to double check that. And if at all possible, get a bigger tank. Bigger is better. They would prefer bigger groups, at least 5, but since it's a big fish, it's not usually done. The more you have, the more they'll come out. What tankmates are you going to have with him? Also, it's a good idea to get a secure hood for the tank. I've heard of many bala sharks jumping out of a tank and not surviving the fall. They do get scared easily...

um..i know im going to be putting an 6inch pleco in with them..im thinking about some kind of barbs? im not to sure yet but some time today im going to research and see what is the best for them..and im my search for a fish tank im going out again today, i want just the tank because i can build a strong stand for my self alot cheaper then buying a made one, and when i get my 90g 5 is alot..but they're only 2inchs right now..so i think il stay with 3..

and yeah i leave my light on all last night and watched him, once the other fish sleeped or just moved really slow he was darting around the tank, and i think hes found a new spot, i'v had this croadile head in my tank for some time now and he really like sitting in it now:)

That's good that he's active. Plecos need really good filtration though. They're messy fish. For barbs, one of the most common sold in shops is the Tiger Barbs. The get to 3 inches long and are aggressive fish that need to be in groups. You could probably have about 10 in your tank and they wouldn't bother the other fish, only themself. But they are very active as well and I think your balas would be scared of them. Another choice is Cherry barbs, a peaceful and colorful barb that also likes to be in groups. I don't think your balas would mind them.Your best choice is to go to a fish store near you and see what they have, or if you want to order offline then look on that site.

okay thanks, i was going to the store today, after i watched my local hockey team play. but by then it was 5, and i remember all the stores where closed and are torrmow. il look up the cherry barbs today thanks for the suggestion:)
