Hi everybody!
I'm new to this forum but have had tropical fish in the past. I recently bout a juwel trigon 180ltr for my girlfriend and I 2nd hand. The guy who I bought it off hadn't time to keep it and when I went to look at it the water was so green I don't know how any fish survived!!

So after I lot of water, sand and filter replacement I got setup, I have 5 fish from the original setup including 2 gouramis and 1 pleco, there are 2 other guys I'm not sure what their breed are, could you help?

I've added 2 swordtails, 2 black mollies, 2 yellow mollies, 2 white mollies, 1 red tailed shark, 1 male betta splenden and 5 Rummy nosed tetras.
As I've been out of the scene for a while just wanted to make sure all species will get on and what should I do to keep all these guys happy!!

Thanks.

P.s how do I add photos via iPhone?!

It is a platy, but I cannot tell the sex because I cannot see the bottom fin properly. If you get another picture of it I can tell you the sex? :good:

I think they could b platy alright. Do you guys think all these varieties of fish will get on?

Definitely a platy I've got three who look like this I think they're labled as gold or rainbow platy in my LFS but might be wrong. Also just keep an eye on the betta and gouramis as both are territorial and since you dont have many plants to break up the tank you might get problems but see how it goes :)

So heres the photos of the two platys, think there both female?

Is it safe to have the two swordtails together? And will the rummy tetras be safe with the gouramis??

Hi Gooch, :hi: to the forum.

Your unknown fish is a platy, as the other posters have said. It looks very unhappy though, possibly sick.

I'm worried when you say you replaced the filter; did you keep any of the old media? If you didn't, you will have lost all the good bacteria that keep your water in good condition. If you don't have test kits yet, I would recommend you get one (liquid or tablet ones, not the paper test strips) so you can monitor the water. Ammonia and nitrite are the vital ones, but pH and nitrate will come in handy.

Hi thanks,
Yeah I've added the new fish over the last few days and brought a water sample to the store before I bought any new fish. The guy tested it and says It was perfect. I'd say the reason he's not do well is because of the tank conditions before I bought it. The water was clearly not regularly changed and was so green I don't know how they survived. I bought a general tonic and added some today so I'm hoping this will help him along!!

Do you know if all these fish will get along with each other because there is a lot of different species and I'm worried some fighting may occur. I've noticed the last few hours my new swordtail is a bit aggressive and is chasing the yellow mollies.

I'd take anything said in your local fish shop (LFS) with a pinch of salt. Their one aim is to sell you something, and their idea of 'perfect' might not be the same as ours ;) I'd still recommend you buy yourself a test kit.

What exactly did you do to the filter?

Green water is, in general, not at all harmful to fish. I wouldn't add anything to your tank, apart from plenty of good, clean dechlorinated water.

Your fish should all get along, although you may have problems with the red tailed shark as it matures; they can become very aggressive, although not all do. I'd also recommend you get a proper id on your plec, as some of them can grow very large and wouldn't be suitable for your tank.
