so i got a female to join my male bolivian ram today, and so far he has done nothing but harass her :( she hides, and he goes away for awhile but as soon as she comes out again, he's on her. she looks so scared and there's nothing i can really do. i tap on the glass at him when he goes after her, which fends him off some of the time.

will this get any better? do i need to just return her to the store (if i even can). i'd put her in the 10g, but it won't have a filter for while as it's on the 29 they're in right now.

what to do...

poor girl :( she's so cute too

Point is that ram r cichlid they have picking order, even if its a female they will still attack. Thats why always start with atleast 5-6 of fish instead of 2 as alpha will always just have one target to bully and the one being bully will soon be dead from stress or illness. Buy 3-4 more ram and add them into ur tank and see hows it goes. You can always sell the others once u have a pair most of the fish store takes them.

ahhh i see -_- the problem is, the ram i got was literally the last one. they had tons of german blue rams, but only one lil girl bolivian. so you're suggesting that 3 or 4 more would... even out the agression a bit? but if a pair formed, would the others then be bullied by that pair?

i guess i'll have to look around and see if somewhere else has them.
