my rams spawned!

i noticed yesterday that my bolivian rams were getting all fired up when my parrot fish would come near their side of the tank, the male was nipping at the parrots (who are much larger) and chasing them away. today i saw them cleaning a rock and both of them going after the parrots when they came near. then just a few minutes ago i looked in and saw eggs! i doubt i'll get any babies out of this because i figure the parrots and clown loaches will get them, but it's still cool they spawned! i've got another tank that i plan on getting set up once i get some lights, so i'll move the rams in there when that time comes, which is unfortunately still a few months away
i'm just kind of surprised they spawned already. i just got the female about a week ago and didn't think they'd hit if off so quickly. i'll keep you guys updated on what happens with the eggs.

I have 3 bolivian rams and have no idea how to tell the sex of the fish. Could you help me please?

the males are a little larger and narrower(?) while the females have a fuller, more round body shape if you look from the side. also look at the fins- the males' fins will trail off more- look at the fin on top (dorsal fin?), if the back edge trails back closer to the tail, good chance it's a male. another (though not always too accurate) way is to look for egg spots on the anal fin

ok, the baby watch is over, the eggs are already all gone. i don't know if the parents or other tank mates ate them

That has happened twice with me already. Dont know what it is, someone on the forum told me it take a couple of spawnings for them to get it right, I am now on my third spawing with my rams.

yeah, i've heard that sometimes they eat the first batch or let others get to them. hopefully the third time's the charm for you.

congrats! hopefully mine will try again. i don't know what i'll do with ram fry, but i guess when they get big enough i can keep some and try to sell the rest to the LFS

how many do you think there are?
