Hi i have a pregnant platy fish and i read that if they start to hide in your plants and kinda act a little bit crazy when they are about to drop, So i put her in a different tank to have the fry, but, she went even crazier. she would swim back and forth until she hit the sides so i just put her in the tank with the other fish. is this normal?

i thought mine was ready because she was hiding in the plants but i later found out she wasn't ready. The night she had the fry i noticed she was huge looked like she would pop, i woke up the next morning and she had had them during the night.

in my experience, i think it's just best to leave them be. i've had pregnant guppies and platies in the past and every time i figured they would drop fry, i moved them and nothing would happen. now, i just leave them in the community tank and let them comfortably drop fry on their own. i have a heavily planted tank with various plants and java moss, which increases the fry survival rates.

If you move them too close to having fry it can stress them and cause them to abort under developed fry or stress them out so much that they themselves die. It is best to either leave them in the main tank and provide lots of plants and hiding places for fry or move them to a fry tank a week or more before they drop.
