Hi to who ever reads this,

I recently set up a tropical tank in June. In my tank i have danios, platys, guppys and mollys.

Friday i was given the guppy 2 female that was pregnant and a male . i put the females straight into a breeding trap because i want babies. this morning i found the male dead. All day one of the females has been banging her belly on the bottom of the breeding tank so i thought looks like shes getting ready to have her fry. iv just gone down stairs and found her dead. why has this happened has she been in stress . couldnt she part with her fry. i just dont know. im feeling very sad at the moment. is it common for fish to die while giving birth.

thanks :

i got them friday and put them straight in because they looked like they was ready to burst.

The other guppy died this morning.

Iv done a 50% waterchange now but my levels for nitrite and amonia were ok it said.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish of each type.
Can you post your water stats please in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Breeding traps do stress females but if the male died aswell it could be a desease.
Any symtoms to go on.
How long did you climatise the new fish for.
Were the fish skinny or bloated.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet.
Is the fish anus enlarged or red and inflamed.

It quite common for livebearers to die before giving birth, during birth, after birth.
