Not having a good time of it people, and at present have vowed to never own a juwel aquarium EVER again.

A couple of months ago the filter system died on me. In a state of desperation I rushed out and bought/installed a fluval filter instead. fortunately fish survived. Planned to report the problem and hopefully get the cost of my new filter back, but never bothered in the end. My fish were alive and that was all that mattered.

Now it's December. My tv was broken, my car was damaged by someone reversing into it, and my sick bunny is having a bad patch and under the vet. I fixed all the above somehow with all the cash I had and everyone's got cheap pressies this year.. :*) hope they'll understand!

At the start of last week the light in my juwel tank began to flicker badly, finally going off for long periods of time with an occasional flash- which is the status we are at now. My room is like a disco. Worse, my plants began to suffer a bit. I've been removing dead matter from the tank every day. I don't know if I've been cleaning excessively or there are changes resulting in the tank, but the water has started to get scummy. My fish are often gasping at the surface and I'm water changing myself silly. Two of my neons have died and some of the others are looking 'poor'.

I'm so annoyed! What a waste of well over 100 quid! This tank has proved an utter nightmare. There's a couple of adopted corys in there that a friend gave me which have become firm favourites. They seem ok at the moment, better than the neons. They hit the surface for air more often than is normal but I'll be distraught if I lose them.

Having flicked through all the tank paperwork I have there is no 'passport' which is my guarantee apparently. I remember wondering where it was when I opened the tank originally. I have all my paperwork from the original order and in the back of my manual it says I need to contact the sellers first.

The tank is all of 6 months old and has been carefully maintained. Surely this shouldn't be happening?!

As its under a year old you are covered by the sale of goods act and entitled to a full refund or exchange for faulty equipment. Your contract is with the shop and not juwel itself so dont be fobbed off if the shop owner says you need to contact juwel to sort it as its up to him to sort it with juwel.
Go and get your money back and remember to say under the sale of goods act blah blah...

I am sorry you are having problems. Are you sure the power head is broken? I am not saying this to annoy you, the same thing happened to me. I had cleaned the bit where the impellor is and it looked perfectly clean. I phoned Juwel and they said take it back to where you bought it and tell them to give you a new one. Any problems contact us. I took it back and the man took it away and cleaned it again. He said it was very dirty inside. He then showed it to me working in some water and it was fine. So I skulked off home with the original power head. It may not be as clean as you think is all I'm trying to say. It is very frustrating when things go wrong. Now when my filter stops I just give a very thorough clean. In fact I have just bought a Juwel Rio300 because I find the tank easy to maintain. A lot of people really dislike Juwel tanks. Hope you get yours sorted out. :)

It's the quite likely the powerhead is broken, mine was too when getting the tank. I'm pretty certain that a newly setup tank can not clogg a powerhead badly enough in 3 days time for it to stop working. Plus we've taken it apart completely and there was no dirt to be found in it. I never bothered getting a new one of anyone though, just bought myself a working filter.

I'm really sorry to hear about your trouble Maroonostrich, and really hope you will be able to get either your money back or a complete new tank. The shop should be able to help you out, you'll probably have more luck with them than with Juwel.

Also, sounds like your light bulb has gone, Juwel or your fish shop wont replace this, (I dont think) as there is a limited amount of life in a bulb.

New one should be about a tenner?

Hi Maroonostrich :)

It sounds like you are having more than your share of problems, and at the very worst time of the year! :(

I hope Santa will think of your fish when he loads up his sleigh!

As ive always said the equipment supplied with Juwel tanks is utter crap, they may work out slightly cheaper than setting a tank up from seperate hardware but you really do get what you pay for. I have two juwel tanks from when we first started fish keeping and i would never waste my money on another one.

Hi, it does sound as though your filter is broken. When I thought mine was broken I phoned Juwel on 01953 606363 and the lady was very helpful. As I said she said I could have a new one, but mine wasn't actually broken. If you bought your tank from new you have a 2 year guarantee. Not sure about the lights but the tubes don't cost that much, although it is still very annoying that it is broken. I couldn't remember the number from when I phoned so I looked it up for you. It is not printed on the Instruction Manual you just get a German number. Hope that helps. :)
