hope this is the right place to post!
sad1.gif my young female guppy cant swim straight-by this i mean she looks although she has got a weight attached to her tail and her tail is to heavy for her body.no other symptoms,no purtruding scales spots or ragged fins she otherwise looks really healthy! she does on occasion swim around but this is a great effort for her.
water if fine all zero (amo & nitrite) and nitrate is 10.
any ideas??

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Does the fish look bloated.
What do you feed your fish.
Any signs of long stringy white poo.

Sounds like swim bladder to me, Unable to maintain balance and look like the tail is weighing them down in the water.
I would issolate her to a small container. She will get weak trying to maintain her balance.
It's not sounding to good for her.
Try some peas aswell.

she is in a 30 litre tank on her own at the moment, had been in a 96 litre tank with 9 other guppies 2 usd catfish and 2 bn plec. amo-0 nitrite0 nitrate 5 (since last test after water change)
she doest look bloated in fact she has lost a lot of weight and is looking skinny.she is refusing food but will eat live brine shrimp.i think that it may have something to do with her swim bladder but there is no cure is there? no signs of stringy white poo,in fact as she isnt eating havent really seen any poo?
have treated her with a dose of salt of water and up'd it on the second day as directed and she is looking at lot better and is swimming stronger but have also noticed since last nite she has got a pinkish like spot where her gravid spot would be? what is this? it isnt on the body though i see see it through her body-hope that makes sense!

POST FROM 10TH MAY IN LIVEBEARERS:
took a picture & video down to my lfs -who i must say has been running for years and i really trust him(his an independent store not a chain!) and he said that she has got an internal problem but looks although it is affecting her swim bladder.so advised to carry on with salt and see what happens but did warn me that she could go on some time like this but could/would proberley evenutally die as there is nothing you can really do.and as i said i do trust him as he COULD of sold me a whole heap of lotions and potions! he also agreed that she has got a bit of fin rot but is secondary. since doing the salt yesterday and up-ing the dose today she does seem to have perked up a bit and even ate a few brine shrimp! she has refused food for last few days so it a little improvement!

Ok.
Did she lose weight due to not eating.
Check her anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Does she have a sunken in belly.
Is her spine bending.
Any worms ptrutruding from the anus.
Been skinny when eating can mean old age, fish tb, internal parasites.

For now I would try a bacterial med. it could be a bacterial infection or internal parasites which have damage the swim bladder.
It's not sounding good for her if i'm honest.

she has lost weight due to not eating,
anus is a tiny bit inflammed but very red, almost like she is passing a blood worm?
i have had a gut feeling all along that she had an internal bacterial infection but havent used meds as 1)have already treated her for fin rot and u not surposed to treat again for 7 days, today is day 4,
2)was advised against treating again at this stage.
her swimming has greatly improved instead if swimming on her tail she is swimming in normal postion but with her tail down a bit. her fin rot is much better and starting to clear.
have also been doing research on internal 'bacterial meds' most on here and the general thought is that they are useless and the only way of effective treatment is with antibotics which has to come from a vet? any thoughts? have you had any succsesful treatments?

i tried feeding her again today this morning with flakes-no interest and agin this afternoon with shelled peas-she took a nibble but not a lot at all!

Internal parasites can cause bacterial infections.
Whats your location as I would treat for internal parasites.

Red inflamed anus can by a symtom of dropsy but I doubt it dropsy if she not bloated.

Camallanus

Symptoms:

When the fish is stationary, deep red worms can be seen protruding from the anal pore. They are only visible when the fish is still because the worms retreat into the intestine at the fish’s slightest movement. Other signs may include an inflamed and enlarged anus. In severe infestations, the fish may become emaciated and spinal curvature may also occur.

Cause:

The parasitic worms Camallanus Cotti and Camallanus lacustris. These small, livebearing parasitic worms attach to the intestinal walls and rectum with pinchers. The worm’s grip is so tight that any attempts to remove it forcibly will rip away tissue from the intestinal wall. The worm’s pinching causes ischemia (reduced blood flow) to that part of the intestine. In time, the tissue to that part of the intestine will die, at which time the worm will migrate to another part of the intestine. This causes perforations throughout the intestine, which allows other pathogens to gain entry. If the fish is not treated, either the parasite or bacterial will kill the fish. Camallanus infestations occur most often in livebearing fish such as Guppies and Mollies, though infection is possible in all fish. Camallanus infestations are contagious. All fish, including those not yet showing visible symptoms, as well as the aquarium, should be treated.

Treatment:

Treat with Internal Parasite Guard, Pipzine, Disco-Worm, Trichlorfon or Fluke-Tabs as well as a medicated food to prevent a bacterial infection.

oh my god  !
im in surrey uk.
thanks for info been a great help! :good:

If the fish dies you will still need to medicate the whole tank.

went to the website you gave me and have sold out! any where else i can get it or is my lfs just as good? also where on earth did it come from if that is what it is? no new fish?
is it ok to tteat with bn catfish and usd catfish in there? no other fish have any signs of symptoms yet,all healthy and eating-they are in main tank!
