My Poor Eel

i had a beautiful 17" tyre track eel but all of a sudden it appeared that he was beening eaten by something i couldnt see. i moved him to another tank but it just got worse and he died. what could it be? and are my other fish at risk?

Can you explain more do you mean it looked like his flesh was being eaten away.
Water stats would be good too.
