I recently noticed my fish sitting at the bottom of the tank in the corner. On close inspection, his fins are Rotting and he looks very sorry for himself. A friend of mine has had a look and they advised it was fin Rot. Since then I have done a 60% water change and added Anti Fungus and Fin Rot by Interpet to the water, also removed the plants.... Questions:

1) I am not sure how often I have to add the Anti Fungus/Fin Rot Treatment is it one dose only and sit back and wait or do I added it every few days?????

2) I have read some other articles and noticed salt is suggested also, is it ok to use salt with a gold fish or not??????

Thanks

Dave

The doseage and treatment should be right on the bottle. If not call the company and ask for the treatment schedule. Cant answer the salt and goldfish question as i have zero experience with goldfish in an aquarium. :)

I think the best you can go do is:

1) carry on with the medication, even for the next few weeks. Just to be sure.
2) perform regular water changes, even a major clean-out (once the fish is healthy)
3) don't give salt to goldfishes, as they're primarily coldwater not brackish/marine fishes. You'd be risking it if you do.

Sorry, boxalld, that this happened to your goldfish/es.

Best of luck, and keep us all posted. :(

The instructions on the bottle I have are pretty clear - the 'manual' I got with the bottle was useless. I have the same interpret stuff so here goes...from memory the instructions are <edited after checking at home- had instructions for whitespot treatment mixed up with finrot>

1) Remove all active filtration (carbon) from your tank
2) Work out dosage based on tank gallons, dilute into 500mls of warm water and add to tank
3) After 7 days do a 30% water change and repeat treatment until problem clears.
5) When you are happy the problem is solved replace active filtration and perform several daily 30% water changes to clear the medication from the tank

The final instruction came from the LFS that sold it to me :)
