My platy

I have a 10 gallon tank with 6 white cloud minnows and 4 platys 1male platy and 3 female platys.

My male platy keeps attempting to mate with my gold twin bar but she doesn't want to so she swims away or hides under my (spelling?) combomba, which is sort of like hortwort but prettier.

there are 2 other females for him 1 of which may be pregnant, so why is he after just her?

the nitrAte are in the the 40s

nitrItes are 0

ph is around neutral

hardness is hard as usual but thats because my area water is just like that.

I haven't tested ammonia but the other day (sunday) it was fine.

EDIT: what can I do to make him stop?

Can you introduce more hiding places for the female? My first tank had 1 male and 3 females. Just like your case, this male decided to go after one female. Eventually, the female found a way to enter into a pile of java moss, where the male cannot go into and I used to see this orange blob right in the middle of java moss all the time...

Well the males is smaller than her so he can fit anywhere she can, she seems to have found one under my combamba (sort of like hornwort, but prettyer) where thre seems to be a little ditch in the gravel. it's also where my whiet cloud minnow layed their eggs (I think) Although he could easily get back three I think he looses intrest to follow her and goes bother the others.

I got so irritated with my male platy. He, too, would constantly chase one of the females around, so she hid all the time in the plants. I wanted to take him back, but my son didn't want to, so I put him in another tank. He's the only platy in there. I call it his penalty box.

I felt that my harassed female had no quality of life, so that was the choice for me. I didn't like that she hid most of the time. If taking him back is an option, or moving him, I'd do that. Of course, if you want to have fry, then he's gotta stick around for a little while, at least.
