my platy just gave birth to atleast 6 babies... i have a few questions

1. will anymore be comming soon?
2. are crushed flakes ok for their food?
and
3. are any of these fish preditors to platys:

* Siamese fighting fish?
* Sword Tails?
* other Platys?

4. are there any illnesses to look out for?

and are their any tips a more experienced breeder can give me to ensure there survival?

the flakes will be fine and all those fish will eat ur fry so i suggest u get a breeding net or get anuthga tank for them cuz thyell get eaten

hmm i dont have a spare tank.. but they have swam past the other fish before and they didnt eat them so i think it will be fine.. should I just put some more plants in the tank or something?

First of all...congratulations :clap:

Answers....

1. Your platy will most likely give birth to or has allready given birth to more fry
2. Crushed flakes are fine for them to eat. Make sure they are crushed up like powder tho as their mouths are tiny. I use a special fry growth food which has lots of vitamins that they need to grow healthy.
3. All the listed fish will eat platy fry. All adult fish will eat platy fry
4. There are no specific illnesses to look out for however they are more susceptible to bad water conditions....to help this keep up with regular water changes

Other tips....unless you have lots of hiding places in your tank they will get eaten by the other fish. If you want them to survive it is best to buy a breeding net and place the fry in there till they are big enough not to be eaten...this also ensures that they get enough food....which fry need...and often...

They should be fed small amounts 3-4 times per day. Do not overfeed them...they will explode (seriously) and die!!

Platy fry are hardy little fish and will grow to adult size in apporx 6 months....once they start breeding they won't stop!!

thnx alot! I will get one of those net things as soon as possible... o and btw ive got heaps of plants all over my tank and ive got 2 caves so i think they should be allrite until i get the net.. anyway the ones that do survive will be the fittest so it doesnt really matter in the end i suppose :unsure: o well thnx for the help ive crushed the flakes and they are eating them and none of them have been eaten (unless the female gave birth to more) ive got atleast 8 in there, how many do they usualy give birth to?

well good news none of my fry have been eaten yet and the other fish show no interest in eating them.. proberly cause i feed all of them usualy 2 or 3 times a day so they are not interested in eating the fry.. what do u think?

thats wat i thought but i came home one day and half my fry were gone. so better to be safe then sorry
