Can anyone tell me any signs when a platy is about to give birth? I have a Twin Gold Bar Platy that I am sure is pregnant, I do not see a gravid spot but from what I have read there is not always one. However she is not only big she is HUGH, her belly is so big that it the coloring is not a lighter yellow almost white. She is swiming around normally for her, she eats, and is not hiding, which is what my red wag platy did just before she was getting ready to give birth (I lost her this weekend, aparently giving birth because there were about 6 new fry in the fry tank, but her belly was still very full, I will miss her) But my Gold twin Bar she does not seem to be showing any signs that she is ready other than she is very big, Sorry I do not have any pictures, Are there any comon signs when a platy is about to give birth to look for. Thanks

My platies were really big too, but they showed no signs of labour and no gravid spot.
I put them in the breeding tank last night, and i found 6 frys this morning.
But im not really sure which of my two platies gave birth to them.

My Yellow Platie was Huge but no gravid spot.
My Redish/Orange Platie had a gravid spot but she wasnt as big as the yellow one.

I think you should get them in a breeding tank/box... bcuz i now found out my frys were from the yellow platie with no gravid spot.

She now has 21 frys, and more coming...:D

Another way of telling when they are going to give birth is the amount that the male platys (or some other livebearer males that are a bit stupid) are chasing them.the platys may also try to hide a little bit too! Cant think of anything else. GL :)
