To my great suprise when doing my water change at the weekend i spotted a baby platy. Then another and another, 4 in total. I've had the tank for a year and a half now but never had any fry before. Took a note of there size and asked at my LFS about how old they are, they are about 8mm, LFS reccond about 2 weeks. I guess they must of hid in the plants so as not to be eaten. I have brought a breeding trap, but then i figured that they haven't been eaten yet so will probably be fine left in the tank. At what age/size should the fry normallally be released back into the main (community) tank? I have been feeding them crushed flake, they seem to like it. It this the correct thing to be feeding? Any other suggestions or advice would be great. :D :D :D

Many people will suggest different ways to go about feeding the baby fish. But I'd just stick to what your doing, make sure you feed them 4-5 times a day and also make sure the bite sizes are really small. Wtg dude....

Congratulations on the babies!

When my fry get big enough (about 1cm), they love frozen daphnia. It is small enough to fit in their tiny mouths. Other than that crushed flake seems to go down well. I've never had much luck with liquifry so I stick with the crushed flake, and if your tank is planted as you say, they will nibble on the algae and the plants in there :)

They seem to be happy with the crushed flake so i'll carry on like that. There getting braver now, not hiding so much. :D
