my platies wont give birth. Thers 3 females and 1 male and they wre preganant when i got them. Its tough to see there gravid spot but im sure they are all preggo. but none of em have dropped yet!
Are you sure they haven't just had small batches and the fry got eaten? If they really haven't dropped, something is wrong. Platies can hold on to their fry is they feel the conditions aren't satisfactory. What size tank, any other fish, and what are your water params?
Hmmm...everything seems good. Unless, perhaps, have the Gouramis been aggressive to them? Otherwise, are you absolutely sure they haven't been giving birth and then the fry got eaten? They'd probably get eaten pretty fast in that tank.
I'd just give them time...eventually, if they are pregnant, they'll have to give birth, or, if something is wrong, abort.
I thought i'd lost all my platy fry other day but somehow one was still alive but stuck in a sponge... aint got a clue how it managed to get so far down as sponges are a nice snug fit. Oh yeah it was still alive so I put in tank again for it to go hide and I aint seen it since.
Good news everyone. I FOUND A FRY woooo. But its white and i have orange and black mottled platies. Well thats kinda weird. Maybe itll colour up. Its only one but im looking after the lil guy/gal lol!
Cyas
Congrats! It might take a little while for him to color up. Or, since females can store sperm, perhaps she mated with a white Platy and his genes were dominant. You'll just have to wait and see!
thanks. saw him this morning cos me mate slept round and we went on an LFS crawl yesterday ended up buying 5 platies 4 guppies, a male fighter 3 bags of bloodworm and a case of frozen bloodworm! man i spent about £50 lol nvm so i woke up thisorning went to see the new male and i saw this lil speck ebhind the bogwood. Hmmm i thought probably a deformed snail. But on closer inspection it was a fish so i immediately netted him into a net!
Oh, so you have how many Platies now? They are all the same color, then? If you have a bunch of females, then you don't know if the old ones gave birth or the new ones did, do you?
So you're going to raise the fry in a breeder net, for a bit...just make sure to move him out before he gets too big, otherwise it could stunt his growth. And he'll love the bloodworm, if you give it to him. Just make sure it's nice and small. And remember to feed him often, 4-6 times per day if possible!
no no no no i dint get the platies they were my friends present! anyway he bought me a 5 gallon bow front fivided for 2 bettas lol! i feel so guilty fornot getting him anything bigger!
My guppy's have babies on numerous occasions i never keep the fry however nobody seems to want to home them. Get a breeding trap and just focus on one of them.
LOL!, i missed it to!
Oh yeh, i take it you live in england mate- where abouts?
