okay I know that I post alot about my pirhanas don't hold it against me.... but I notice that lately the gravel in the middle of the tank ( its an open spot so that they can chase their food around there) has a gold color alge growing there but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere but there (not even on the glass except at the bottom where the gravel meets the glass. any ideas?

I think everyone suffers from algae at some time and it can drive you mad

I assume that its on the gravel so giving it a good going over with a gravel cleaner when you do your water changes should help

Though if its not too rapant or unsightly then I would worry about it too much ;)

:)

why would this is a fish forum  and as a matter of fact i like to hear/read some pirhana story's,pictures would be cool too  (hint hint)anyway the algea is proly blooming coz of the extra waste and nutrients in the water that the P's produce when they feed (i think  )anyway what kind of filters you got on the tank?do you vac often?

could also be diatoms,i have some info on it somewhere.lemme see if i can find it for you(my memory really sucks)

ahhhh i saw a tank full of baby red belly pirahnas today at lfs, and they were pepperd with white spot and 2 were at the bottom of the tank dying :-( i asked the guy if they were been treated, he said yes it was there final day if treatment, but goodness nows what he'd used cause they were coverd in it, i told him to take out the 2 dying ones and destroy them humainly, and i made sure i stayed there untill i saw him net them out
,

it is really an odd thing that pirhanas get sick. because they are constantly nipping each others fins and exposing themselves to bactira. mine have never been sick (keeping my fingers crossed.) we will see next spring. they are sooo cute when they are babies feeding on neon tetras

shhhh don't let william hear you saying that cause he's neons
lol oh forgot he;s away till next year lol

I agree I like neons too!!! :D :D :D but the way I see every one needs a good meal

yer thats what danny says when he's feeding poor little shrimps to his fish :-( :D

I like to think of it more like the Lion King the circle of life.

although I just found out that the bass from the phantom of the opera incites a feeding frenzy
