My parrot fish has laid and is fanning hundreds of eggs. There is no male in the tank. How does this happen?

I'm not too sure about egglayers.

But in all fish life I don't believe a female needs a male to draw out eggs.
although the male would be required to fertilize the eggs.

Just my own personal thought, Research goes a long way =]
