Yesterday, Wal-Mart got a new "supply" of fish which I was really shocked by. They have never had oscars but now they do- about 10 in a 5 gallon! Also 20 angelfish and about 5 balloon mollies in a 5 gallon and about 6 orandas in a 5 gallon. They also had new girlies (guppies)! I had been looking for a pregnant guuppy because I'm looking for fry. But I also noticed at the back of the tanks, 5 little fry! I asked the clerk if they were free and she told me she could give me 2 for free but she didn't know what her manager wanted to do with the others. So I marched home and put them in my breeding trap (for now) it has slits on the bottom for some reason and one of them fell through and got eaten :shout: . But another one is still here right now! He ate some flakes that fell to the bottom, and at first just sort of floated above the slits but now he's swimming  . Now, how can I mke him eat flakes ? The breeding trap has this V shaped thing that is supposed to go through, I will move this, as he can't get food with that on, but how long can he survive if he doesn't eat the flakes?

i know which trap you have, didnt you get a seperate bottom that you place inside the trap? with his/her food just crush up extra fine and then he will eat when ready.
wot concerns me is that you are getting fry from LFS without know the sex of the guppy and you might find yourself in a situation of the wrong ratio or do you have another tank now?

the fry is most likely to eat when hungry, make sure he is fed finey crushed flakes atleast everyday to give him the option to eat

the lfs keeps the females separate but they are always pregnant, and they have had fry for a while, I don't buy my guppies form them as they do keep he fish in bad conditions, they were just too cute to leave there...
my trap came with a top I'm sure it was a top because it didn't fit at the bottom...

does it fit half way or three quarters of the way down inside the trap?
yeah i know its hard to resist the cute gups

yes it does, but that's the V thing I was talking about, and the fry slipped through that too...
He has eaten today! I'm trying not to get too attached but I named him Guppy Jr. he comes to say hello when I come near the tank

sound like a birthing trap that you have, there should be something with it that covers the the slits at the bottom atleast 1cm above the bottom with tiny holes in it to allow water to flow through like this one.

nope, that looks close, but it ain't it, also I took out the V thing because the instructions said that it was for the fry to slip through it so that the mom wouldn't eat them. My brother broke it when I took it out :shout:
