I have a 20 gallon community tank thats heated and filtered. I'm already makin plans for what i'll do next though. So when all my tetras eventually die off I'm thinkin of getting

a male betta

5 or 6 glass catfish

an elephant-nose fish

and 3 or 4 corys

My idea is to get fish that will not bother the betta and vice versa. I'm thinkin if i got those fish i'd still have a little bit of room left to add something else. Any ideas? I'm thinking small schooling fish are out of the question (especially tetras).

In certain cases the betta is the aggressor, so have a backup plan in case the betta isn't compatible with the other fish. If you go with the glass fish, make sure you have adequate housing places, as well as adequate slow-sinking food in case you are unable to coax them to the surface to feed.

Corydoras are a good idea for the bottom, though you could also add loaches if the tank is long enough. In either case, make sure to add finer, smooth gravel or even sand if you are able to properly maintain it.

I've had good luck keeping black skirt/widows with bettas, so that's a tetra you could add to the tank.

As for "letting the tetras die"... I personally have no real qualm there, but you might want to reconsider how you phrase such things online... some members can be... less than happy about cycling with fish, let alone callously letting them perish.

Anyways, hopefully you get a few more ideas from the others.

I appreciate the ideas and advice but if you're going to use quotes you should probably use my exact words. I never said "letting the tetras die", but inevitably they will die one day and I'm just thinking of what I'll do when they pass. Its not like i'm gonna stop feeding them or throw a cichlid in the tank to eat em up. Just wanted to clear that up.

ive had a fighter with all the above fish and they never bothered each other at all.
fighters will only go for other fish with big finnage usually as the think its another male fighter

Hope that helps
