Hey billy,
Male siamese fightign fish are best to be kept on their own, tetras and other fish usually nip at their fins, so having neons with him isn't a good idea.He may mix with other community fish but may see them as a threat and attack them.
I would reccomend to get another small tank for him, then you could get a nice big shoal of 10-15 neons and a small gourami or centre peice fish.Only add around 3-5 neons at a time or else it could make water conditions go bad and kill the fish.
I'll ask a Mod to move this to tropical chat for you :good:
Edit:put fish instead of this

I'm moving this to the Tropical Chat section for you Billy, it will get more responses there. :)

Do you have the 70 litre tank set up right now with these fish in it or are the fish you mentioned currently in a smaller tank ?

Hello trublu,

How has your Siamese Fighting Fish been behaving with the neons he was in with. Was He Chasing them alot or just flaring(Puffing Up) at them.

You could Try some Mountain Clouds/Gold Mountain Clouds with him as a test ( they are cheap fish and look really Nice).
Siamese Fighters tend to like fish they do not see as a threat or competition.
Cories will work well with them aswell.

get a 2-3 gal for your betta splendens and then get more neon tetras you need about 6 of them so they thrive well IMo then get a few corys and maybee 2 or 3 guppys ps . dont add them all at once

we are are setting up the 70 litre today, added tap safe and biological starter.

my sff and the neons are fine together, they dont fight and the sff never puffs up with them :fish: :fish: :fish:

just because there have been no attacks yet doesnt mean there wont be
right on experience billy, i found tetra nipped my bettas fins....some people never get any problems...it depends on individual fish, just make sure you keep a backup plan just incase either your betta gets angry and tries to eat your neons, or your neons decide to nip your betta....like a spare tank, or a tank divider, this can even be a piece of plastic cut to fit.

I'd say if they are fine now, just keep a close eye on things, hopefully the space will keep them occupied!

Other fish you can try as someone else said white could mountain minnows, danios, corydoras......I've got some harlequin rasboras to go with my fighting fish, harleys are VERY placid fish, so they would be no trouble.....I also have a tiny pitbull pleco and plan to get another to keep him company soon.

Just make sure your tank has loads of places for everyone to hide and stuff!!! :good:

just dont add anything the same colour as your betta or any thing with quite flary fins like guppies and mollies

it's also about what fish won't hurt the betta, not just what the betta may not like......if you have any questions about maybe a fish you have seen make sure you ask in the betta forum on here so someone can make sure that it's compatible, things like barbs, especially tiger barbs are a no go because they fin nip badly!
Gouramis can't go with bettas because they are both antabanoids (fish type) and both highly territorial, and it's like one will hurt the other.....things like red tailed sharks are aggressive and thats makes them no good....so it's just finding the peaceful community balance a betta in a community needs

Hi all

Billy's dad here, thanks for all your help answering Billy's questions. He's learning alot, soaking up all the info like a sponge.Warms the heart to see one of your kids take a genuine interest. He's gone and done alot of resarch on his own and is looking at alot of options.

We have moved the neons into another tank, but it was weird, theyd all happily co-exsited for about 8 months without any issues, well none that I saw,who knows what went on when the lights went out!!

awww bless :D always nice to see young blood actually wanting to learn!

Probably for the best with the neons, as i said some people never have problems with bettas and neons, I wasn't so lucky, but i'm at least half lucky to have a very placid male who tolerates tankmates :)

Hope billy finds some nice fishy friends!
