Ok, I am going to re-stock my 29g with different fish. Right now I am planning on adding a pair of blue rams and a pair of keyhole cichlids. I have a spare tank set up just in case of aggression. I want to also add some long finned rosy barbs...maybe about 6? As well I am going to get a kuhli loach and MAYBE a bristlenose pleco. Sound ok..?

I don't have any experience with raising dwarf cichlids but I asked for advice for stocking my 55 Gal (the thread is in this forum, named dwarf cichlids) and the conclusion was to get approx the stock you suggested for a 29 Gal. I initially wanted to put 3 pairs of fish but I was told that they would most likely be too crowded. I'm sure the dwarf keepers will respond soon though. Good luck!

This arrangement can work well at least short term , maybe long .

Try and get younger fish, if you can juveniles and raise them up together , they may get along better as they age , though there is no guarantee , and they may end up being crowded as well.

You'll most likely have problems if they breed , territory disputes , some fish want or need the whole tank .

Try and add as many retreats as you can , this can reduce stress , the fish's stress , maybe yours too :) , and give the fish a chance to rest .

The fish are peaceful , but can get aggressive , this shouldn't be too serious [IME not life threatening ].

Just be ready to move some fish If you have to .

Is your tank 30" long ? If so :/ it's best for the fish if you keep only one pair in it , see how it goes . ;)

Keyholes grow to about twice the size of blue rams , not that it matters , just in case you didn't know . :) around 4 and 2" respectively.

Why not look into harlequin rasbora for your schoolers ?

Well, I ended up getting 2 bolivian rams(a pair I hope), 2 clown loaches, 1 otocat and some live plants. I will be adding some blue rams as well sometime next week. I hope the blues dont croak, sensitive little buggers. Thats why I am giving the tank another week to cycle.

Cool, congrats on the new stoc and tank. Topps! Im looking at all these posts because im thinkin bout getting chilids (dwarf) soon too. I hope you have goodluck! :p

Because clown loaches are slow growers, it's not going to matter much right now, but they do grow up to a foot (can u believe that!? :p) They are best in a school of at least 3 as well...May add another clown?

Oki! No prob, I am in love with me clowns personality already! I would love to add more. I am gonna add somemore oto's too, as they like to school as well. My bolivians are currently being incrediably boring. Lol, they are just sitting in one spot staring.

most rams arnt the most exciting fish but when kept properly they are quite spectactualr to watch as they interact with eachother,

have fun with them

 Something killed my oto! He was dead on the bottom of my tank this morning, and he had obvious internal injurys. He had red spots where blood had accumulated under the surface. I dont know what could have killed him. I am so sad. Poor cute little otocat.
