i have orded my fluval u3 today from pet at home along with gravel , air disk and starter kit for tropical tank then i can start to to set up my tank i carnt wait to get it all up and running.

about this fishless cycle: do i add all the decorations and other things before i start to do the cycle or can i add them at a later date.

also i am reading up about plants for the fish tank i would like to go for real because it looks so much nicer and i am wanting some type of wood aswell.

can anyone point me in the right direction with what i need to know about getting the best results for the plants and also what type of wood, would also like to bit more infomation on stuff like java moss and stuff like that.

sorry if i sound like abit of a thicko people lol

but i dont know anything about fish tanks or setting up or ph levels and stuff so i am relying on the nice people on this site to help me set up and nice natural and thriving tank

many thanks to eveyone who has pointed me in the right direction so far as i realy do apriciate it.

You can do the fishless cycle with an empty tank minus heater to speed the cycle. As for wood, you can use regular driftwood though it will float. Common other options are Malaysian Driftwood and African Mopani. Both are dense and will sink on their own, and both will soften the water slightly as they release tannic acid.

For plants, you should go for at least 1 watt/gallon for easy plants like Java moss or anubias. You will want to do the plants AFTER the cycle as ammonia dosing will kill them.

Best,

Ryan
