getting my new 240 litre very soon :hyper: , but not sure what kind of filter to put in it. the woman in the shop said it would probally be better with an external filter which i like the idea of as it won't be in the tank. but which external filter is best only every had the internal 1's so know nothing about them. any advice on which 1 is best would be great
thanks all

You might check with your local swimming pool for a tank that size...Just kidding, but man that's one monster tank!

only works about 53uk gallons. wanted a bigger 1 but no room in our house, already told hubby i wana move so i can get a bigger tank in lol :hyper:

Look at the Eheim range. They are good.

PS: Wish I had a tank that size :)

Yep, Eheim's the way to go.

Look at Living Seas - they have some fab prices - but shop around as there might be some better deals elsewhere to be found :)

 thanks for replying, thought it might be better eheim have read a lot of peeps on here them, right now to go filter hunting :hey:

I find that the whisper power filter works super great for me because it gets the job done and almost never breaks.

Whisper is not a "big" brand here in the UK - don't think I've ever seen one here though I'm sure you can get them if you look around.

Ohhhh. It seems like several people that come here are from the UK and I think people in the UK should be able to get the same products as people in the USA. :grr:

yeah it would be nice, but alas ! :grr: and if we do get the same stuff, it's at least twice the price ! So count yourselves very lucky

"several" is not quite the word Durbkat!! lol.

I whink we brits outnumber the rest of you guys at about 2:1 :flex: ;)

several thousand is a better figure.

trace1..I have always used Fluval filters (external and internal) and have never had a problem.

I would go for a Fluval 404 external with a Fluval 3+ internal on your new tank.

steve

Why bother with both internal and external when 1 of them can do the job perfectly ? A Fluval 404 is recommended for up to 87 gallons
Do you not think it's not up to the job for a 53 gallon ?

I can't vouch for Fluval external, but their internals drive me nuts. The basket disign is pants - when you lift it out of it's holder, you get a load of gunk backwash in to the tank :grr:

Eheim external all the way

if i can get it i want 1 that i can also put the heater in as well that way wires are tidier & nothing in the tank except fishys, which is what i want. was supposed to be for xmas this tank but managing to get it earlier. also had to order a 3 seater & 2 seater settee cos it won't fit in with my 3 piece suite :hey: .
so new tank & new furniture  :hyper:

Sounds like you're looking for the Eheim 2126 Pro Thermo, which is one slick piece of hardware. Looks like it's around £160. Kinda pricey, but if you've got the money...
