Hello everyone, welcome to my tank journey. Here are 2 tanks i want to turn to planted. However, because my lighting order was delayed nearly 2 months by the ebay seller, so all my plants were floated in bucket for ages, looks awuful, even java fern have some brown dot here and there, Half of HC almost rotten.

But finally, everything sorted. Here we go.

Tank 1, 30 L, currently only have two 11 w lights, will order a new lamp soon

tank 2, 64 L , 3 X 24 w day light tubes

i divide it in tow parts, because i will keep two kinds of endler, so do not want them mixed up.

I turn the tank divider into a moss wall, however , i do not have enough moss now, so the wall only planted one side, which include java moss, weeping moss, Xmas moss, ricca etc. Hope it will grow better later.

you can see the bottom of the tank are HC, they look awuful

will try to keep your guys posted, hope i will upload somepic every week, suggestion welcome

I'm afraid on the HC front I doubt it'll grow as it needs a decent plant substrate in my experience, it's also quite demanding light and nutrient wise.

Sam

Thanks Sam, i try to get some sand etc, just a little tight at cash now.

Here i have two problems now.

First, i notice, after i upgrade the light, there are kinda of dirty brown rusty stuff cover the glass, after i swipe it off, it will reappear in two days. I do not know wot it is, if it is brown algea, which i know usually only appear in low light tank. My light is far too intense than that.

And this kinda stuff used to appear when my light is low, but just a little bit, and grow very slow, but now it cover all the glass so fast.

second problem, i notice HC has problem, as my first lots of HC was floated in bucket for nearly 3 weeks b4 the light comes, so it looks awful, the bottom of the plants began to rot, and the new leaves become very tiny, and the color is more dare green. The second lot of HC arrive just 1 day b4 i upgrade the light, the leaves are much bigger and color are much lighter green. Now even there are in the same tank, the first lot just does not grow at all, 3 days passsed, no change at all, can it recover or it just half dead forever?

Re the brown stuff, it sounds like diatoms to me, which are common in newer tanks. Ottos love the stuff so if you have room one or two would probably clear it up fairly quickly.

As for the HC, the first lot is showing a classic sign of a lack of light. I've had the same problem. There isn't much you can do but hope the upgraded lighting helps is to remover. As I said it also likes a nutrient rich substrate.

I love your layout in your rena tank. I have the same one and the lighting that comes with it is not good at all. What are your plans for the new lighting?

does HC has long root? as such a small plant, if i have sand on top of rich substrate, can it reach the real nutrition part?

As for light, did u get your lighting as well? i change all the tubes to daylight tubes. but very rare see plants pearling, I think it because there is not enough plants there, esp most plants already half dead because the long time lacking of light. so there is not enough O2 are generated.

I already noticed some surrival fast growing plants grow quite fast. But there are also some , even very hardy ones still looks half dead, so i doubt the HC can make it.

thx, i hate the original light as well, so i get rid of the lid. I plan to buy a long arm poise angle lamp for it.

those two small light , i got from ebay, only 11 w each, i plan to use them for my fry tank. Because currently the rena tank has no light, i use those temporarily. I want to buy a long arm table poise lamp, actually i got one, however, the daylight bulb i got does not match, so i have to buy a new one

good news today, i changed some water today, and immeidately, i notice, all the plants pearl like mad :hyper:

even those awful look HC, is it a good sign for them to recover?

why they do not pearl with the old water?

i took some hair grass and HC out and plant them in a flower pot, because i read ppl got good result with emersed.

Another problem is , i notice my Windelov Java Fern, because the suffer last a few months, looks really very terrible now, full of dark brown part, and a kinda of dark dirty looks, wot should i do? However, My normal jave fern looks much better.

the 60L tank looks like

right side of it,

left side of it

i notice, the plants on the right side looks much better than those of left side, the only difference is, there is a filter on the left side.

and the tank divider possibly stop all the water current move. There are some green algea, not too terrible, plants do not pearl a lot. i think it because the number of plants is not enough. some of them still too small, and foreground plants occupy at least half of the space, so not enough stem plants.
