yup, i found mine at wal mart for less then a dollar, and just brake up little pieces of it. like i said it floats at first but after a day or two it will sink and the snails will nibble on it. it shouldn't hurt you water.

also occasionally a tum works too. i suggest a water change the day after for tums can cloud the water a bit, but the calcium in it is very good for the snail shell.
