My New Rams

the ph is very low .. since i live in an area where its naturally low..
do you think i should put a carbon cartridge in my tank just for luck? lol

Very sensitive to water conditions. As clean as you can make it. I would only have them in a matured tank of more than 8weeks or so.
Best water is slightly acidic (don't know where "very acidic" came from) and soft. e.g. pH 6.5 and general hardness(GH) below 8. Without this, their life span is significantly shortened. Also means you wont see breeding behavior or fantastic colours.
Have seen the breed in dug out pits and in the corners of tanks. Others have had luck with small flower pots.
Babies are best fed on baby brine shrimp when the fry reach the free swimming stage.
Parents are great guardians of them.

They also spawn on flat surfaces of rocks and wood too :good:
If they haven't spawned before, then they will most likely eat their first batch of eggs, or not care for them as well. But once they get the hang of it both male and female will raise the fry in the tank. Unless aggression is shown between the pair leave both of them in with the fry.

i should have no problem with them they have moved into a tank that has been matured for over a year now. my ph is quite low bout 7. they seem to chase each other around the tank alot and stay in close proximity to the back corner of the tank.

well i think its like lower but i dont have a test so i dont know but it should be low..because of my area..

You need to test the water. Rocks and driftwood will change the PH and the GH (wood will make it acidic and rocks will usually add hardness to the water). If you want them to breed they will need soft acidic water. Like a PH of 5.0-6.5 and a GH of 75ppm or less. They will lay their eggs on a flat surface like a flat rock or leaf. The temp should be at 79-85F, you can also add small amounts of cooler water to simulate a rainstorm, and get them in the mood.

On a side note, once u get some fry add some java moss, as they like to hide in it.
