Yesterday I bought a albino oscar (he's white and has a little orange on him) and a black one, (hes black and has a little red) They are both around 3 inches in size and last night my albino ate two danio's (inbetween 1cm to 2cm in size) I was wondering if I should just put the feeder fish in their tank and they will eat when they want without problems, or should I just feed them a quantity per day?
I have lots of danio's that is what I am feeding them for now, but I have no idea in quantity, soon I will feed them different things but just wanting to know how much is enough...

you shouldnt jus be feeding live food and alot of people here will disagree with doing it at all.

i feed mine flakes, tetra doromin pellets and then some prawns once every other day for a treat.

how bigs your tank for 2 oscars?

how's hercules liking the doromin Sam?

my Oscar gets a mix of tetra doromin, hikari cichlid pellets, ocean cichlid pellets (something like that anyway!) live food (brine shrimp, bloodworms etc), frozen bloodworms etc, prawns, and we mix together prawns and spinach in a blender and freeze it then drop chunks in so he gets some greenery too.

I firmly believe a good varied diet is a key factor in keeping your fish healthy

:good:

Oscars shouldn't be eating danios..

You should be feeding them some sort of cichlid pellet for now..

Feeder fish really aren't neccessary unless you have a weird infatuation with killing things.

With most fish (up to a certain point obv), they will eat and eat and eat despite not being hungry anymore. Most animals, including us, are trained through our history to eat when food is prevelant because we did not know when our next meal would be. Today of course we can decide when our next meal will be for us and our animals. So only feed your fish what they need per meal. If you leave extra food in the tank, it will swing the chemistry of the water wildly and cause your fish to have health problems. Also....feeders can remove oxygen and add amounts of amonia to the water....so why add more stress to filter when you don't need to?
