Today i purchased a pair of Geo's, but these ones were labelled up as a geo "fireworks"

Anything like...

Jurupari are actually Satanoperca jurupari, not Geophagus at all. The differences are quite noticeable; Geophagus tend to be higher-bodied with more immediately slanted heads.

If your new fishes look like my pic, they're Satanoperca daemon. Otherwise, there aren't any Satanopercoids that I know of with red on their tails. There are plenty of Geophagus with red tails, in fact most of them do.

Either way.. as long as they're eartheaters of some description, they'll be gorgeous I'm sure :D Congratulations bud :good: Get some pics up ASAP!

no not like that, the geo's i looked at were geos, they had that long face

but the guys i got had a shorter face lemme see if i can get a pic

i had a pic on my fone, n ive just deleted it instead of moving it doh!!

deffo a breed of geo, u can tell by the face, now they wont sit still grrr lol

Geophagus heads look like:

(excuse the image, taken the day they were put in the tank.. they're usually much fatter ;o]

Shorter, as you say.

The Satanoperca heads are longer, like in the picture of my S. daemon.

yes thats what the look like except the colouring on their bodys are slightly diff, need to let em colour up, only been in the tank 2 hours

ooooo so purdy

Yeah definitely Geophagus then buddy. There's some real stunners out there.

Congratulations on your find :D

i cant beleive i just deleted the pic i had of them both

grrr lol, cannot wait for them to colour up

is there any specific cichlid food i should be feeding them?

i have beefheart, octopus, prawn, mussles, bloodworm, betta pellets lol, tetramin flakes with the crispy center

Avoid beefheart at all costs. Nearly all species of Geophagus and Satanoperca are unable to process that level/type of fat in beefheart. I don't fully understand the ins and outs of it, hopefully someone can enlighten us, but it's certainly not good for them.

In my experience they go mental for live/frozen bloodworm. They'll munch any kind of worm.. glass worm, microworms, etc. They'll also eat a decent quality sinking granular dry food. They don't eat large foods in the wild, they tend to eat large quantities of small foods, sifting through the sand to filter out micro organisms etc. Avoid "Cichlid Pellets", they'll struggle with them until they're 10" body length.
