today for my 30 G i bought 3 yellow labs :D , by the looks of it i have 2 females and a male...(going by the darker finnage???), now i would like something blue....any suggestions?

oh yea and also what can i feed them then, ive been reading about them and it says not worms? does that also mean no mosquito larve or ne that looks like a worm? i have hikari cichlid pellets and flake food...wot frozen foods can they eat?

Hiya BOD,

There are a lot of lovely blue Malawis.

Psuedotropheus Demasoni (Deep blue colour with really dark stripes. Nicest IMO but hard to find!)
Pseudotropheus Elongatus (A bit like the Demasoni but not as nice)
Pseudotropheus Socolofi (Powder Blue)
Kenyi (Bright blue with dark stripes)
Cynotilapia Afra (bright blue with dark stripes in the dominant male only)

These are just a few but here is a good link:

For your Labs, feed the pellets, you can get frozen Veggie food from most fish shops.

The best thing you can feed are foods which contain Spirulnia (I think I spelled that right?) so read the packets of the stuff you are buying.

One last thing-Make sure you read, read and read some more about each fish that you are considering, if you do that you can't go wrong!!

Good Luck,

Loafy

Pseudotropheus Acei are probably the best bet for compaptability with yellow labs. Here's a link with some pics:

ooo they have pretty greeny tails...lol ermmm forgot wot i was goin to say oh yea...do ne of these fish have ne more sorta common names?? -_-

And what might be the easiest of those fish as far as avilability? Im guessing I cant find a few Psuedotropheus Demasoni easily, so whats relatively accessible?

Thanks

Not really, Mbuna rarely seem to have common names. A good LFS will know what you mean though.

That really depends on your LFS, Kenyi's and Socofili are normally the easiest to get hold of but they are way more aggressive than yellow labs. The P.Acei are a better bet but you may need to shop around.

This is a 30 gallon tank. Demasoni, Afra, and Kenyi are all recipe for disaster.

Acei, Saulosi (male is blue) are good choices. Socolofi may or may not work out.

Labs are insectivores - insect larvae works, as to small insects. Brine shrimp works well too, as well as standard flakes and pellets. Spirulina ('veggies') are not a necessary part of their diet, but it is for most other mbuna.

sorry to hijack :*) ......

do LFS's sell insect food stuffs?? I can't seem to get hold of any  .

I have been running around the garden this weekend trying to swat flies for my labs!!!!

Only managed two though....one of which I had to swat my son's head to get. He ended up crying so I don't think I can keep that up all summer long!! :/

At the superpet near me they sell undersized crickets that would probably work well. I've always stuck to the frozen stuff from the fish store - brine shrimp and mosquito larvae, for supplements.
