I recently quit smoking, and I find myself looking for things to keep my hands occupied. I decided to add sand and real plants to all my tanks. There are still some silk plants in a couple of the tanks, but for the most part it is all real. I used mostly cabomba and another plant, I have no idea what it is. My hubby got it a while ago and it was taking over his tank, so I took some trimmings. So without further ado, I will start with the first planted tank. I did it the night before all the others and noticed the water was a little murky, so I let it sit overnight.

Well, it has been a couple of months and the growth is amazing, I have some new pics to compare to the old ones. Some of the tank residents have changed of course, but most of the plants are the same.

Same tank with Bumblebee as the happy new resident

Bumblebee is still in this tank, unfortunately the pic I have shows the back of his tank, so the javamoss is not visible. I have anchored it to a rock, and it is growing like mad. I took the background off so it looks a little less planted.

Love my new cave mom!

As most of you know, Leroy passed away, so I put Prince, my daughters fish, in his old tank

Next is Don, all he has right now is some cabomba, I am thinking of how I can add a cave

Wow has Don's tank ever changed

Guy is my googlie eyed betta, his eyes are huge, I love it. Here is his new tank

Guy is still in the same tank as well, I seem to have some fin rot issues with him and a couple of my other boys.

Now we have Sam, He is my orange boy, with blue and red fins, he too needs a cave or more plants.

Black Beauty shares his 5G with 2 ADF's. I added a bunch of cabomba, an anubias and my "frog" cave. It is hard to see from the pics, but I have 2 rocks glued to the top of the cave to act as the frogs eyes.

I don't have any pics of the 5G to update. I had to pull most of the ambulia as it was infested with algae.

Bob is my tail biter, I thought adding plants might help. I recently down graded him from a 2.25g to the 1g because hubby has a jumper, Kasanth. He was determined to knock the lid off the 1g. They traded spaces

Kasanth passed away a while ago, so Dopey took his place

And lastly is my little girl, my daughter named her Princess to go with her boy Prince. I had removed a different female from my community, and whilst my back was turned, Princess jumped out. I wouldn't have found her in time, except I wanted to cover my other girls tank with a towel. I picked up the one that was on the futon under my community tank, opened it up and went to put it around the bowl. I thought I saw a moth stuck to it, so I kinda jumped. I went to remove the "moth" and discovered it was one of my girls  . Hubby and I gently pulled her off the towel and put her in her own 2g hospital tank. I couldn't see her in it though, so when I played musical bettas yesterday she got her new home. She is swimming much more now. There are pieces of her fins missing, and a couple of scales, but the nice clean water is doing her good.

K, enough typing, more pics

Princess didn't make it, the tank is now bare and being used as a hospital tank.

The last 2 are new tanks and both house Wuv's beautiful babies.

First is Raistlin, my marble

And lastly, Huma, my green plakat

His tank still has fake plants in it. That will change eventually.

Thanks for looking.

I know how addicting they both are. I currently have 16 female bettas, and 12 betta boys. I also have a 10g community and a 55g community. I am on the lookout for a 30-40G to move my girls to, then I will upgrade the 10G into the 20G and use the 10G for quarantine. I am also on the lookout for a couple of growout tanks, as I have a spawning pair of angels and I want to try my hand at breeding them. So many tanks....so little room.

Good thing I am moving soon. I am looking for a house with a big empty recreation room on the first floor. Fish room here I come!

Isn't it sad when you NEED a fish room?! I just need a pet room. BTW, the tanks look great. Is the top of those caves made from slate? If so, where'd you find such great pieces... or did you cut them yourself? Now I'm really thinking of getting some more camboba for my tanks... my girlies need some more plants... and silks are SO expensive.

The tops of the caves are slate. So is the bottom of the frog cave. I have a good friend that just "happened" to have a ton of slate in her back yard. We broke up a couple of pieces, boiled them for 20 minutes or so, and then siliconed them to the river rock she also had in her back yard. I also got a large piece of slate for my 55G. I am hoping the angels will use it to spawn instead of my anubias var. nana. That way when I am ready to try to raise a spawn it will be easy to remove.

Just for kicks, here is my 55G with the slate
rearranged55.jpg

The tank is a bit cloudy as I had just finished rearranging it. You can see the slate on the right hand side.

I already have a fish room, in my office. All but my 55G are in here. 4 tanks ranging from 5G-20G and 9 1G betta bowls.

I love cabomba. It grows so fast. I just got some giant purple cabomba for my 55, and I love it too. It is actually flowering right now. Once I have enough clippings, I am getting rid of ALL my fake/silk plants. They do wonders for keeping the tank clean.

i need a fish room too o wait im getting one in like a month after a long time of persuading my dadis letting me have the basmen YES SCORE more room = more fish :p

Isn't fishkeeping fun?

I remember living at my parents and finally getting the basement to myself. My sister and I used to share. Well not really, but we did take turns on when we could use it. Once she left I got her old room and full use of the basement. I wish I kept fish then, but I didn't.

Very cool caves! did you make them with a hot glue gun? I really like them!

I used aquarium silicone. I cured them for 4 days before I put them in. I tried not to use too much, but it is hard when the silly things wouldn't stay put. I got a little carried away in some parts.

Very nice tanks/bowls and very nice fishies!!!

I wish i could have a fishie room but everyroom in my house is in use! :(

yeah that's a good idea, a fish room...we do have a spare room, but i don't know if my mom and stepdad would like me putting a ton of fish in there. lol, although i did catch my mom in my room yesterday staring at my female tank. "how many do u have in here?" "what are those fuzzy things"(lilly plants, like the ones u get at wal-mart in the fish section that are just the bulb like things), lol, pretty soon she'll be keeping fish.

Very awesome tank/bowls. You are really good at creating stuff for the fish. BTW congrats on quitting smoking. It is really hard

Sorry to bump such an old post, but I didn't want to start a whole new thread, so I just added updated pics to the first post.

Any suggestions to make them better?
