Hi All,

I am so in love with my new sailfin dalmation molly. I just got her yesterday and (s)he seemed a little scared and hid in my aquarium decorations all day. Today she was out and about posing for the camera. Sorry that the pic is a bit blurry but I am still getting the hang of taking pics- it's so much more difficult that I thought!! She has an orange line along the top of her sailfin and some blue in her tail. I need to name her- any suggestions?

What a beautiful molly!
Taking pictures of fish is real hard, out of like 50 pictures that I take only 5 of them are good... not even perfect! I'm still trying to get perfect pistures though...
A name... I usually name my fish after their behaviour, what does you fish do that interesting? Mabye I can think of a good name then.

wow :D she is a gorgeous molly! i love the little line of orange that goes on her sailfin  you should think abuot getting her a just as handsome boyfriend

as for names...-_- i have no clue :)

Thanks for all your compliments- I feel like a proud mother!!

Pox is sooo funny. Then I looked up pox in the thesaurus and so many horrible words were listed (malady, distemper, sickliness, incurability, paralysis, infection, suffering) that I thought naming her pox might be a bad omen. :/

I wasn't originally planning to raise fry but you guys have got me thinking it might be fun! I think I'll start reading about it!!!! Some of the dalmation mollies that were with her in the LFS were pregnant but I didn't get them because I have an aggressive red wag sword in the aquarium too.

Guppylover: so far she is spending a lot of time figuring out her reflection in the glass- swimming up and down several times in a row. She was a little shy at first and hid in the decorations when I came into the room. She is now feeling more comfortable and swims to the front when I'm there. The blue dome in the picture is the top of my aquarium mosque (my parents moved to the middle east a few years ago so I thought a mosque might be fitting ;) ) Within her first 20 minutes in my aquarium she went sweeping through one door of the mosque and the little guys inside were so surprised to see such a big fish that they came scattering out the other doors!! She had her first meal last night and ate surprisingly delicately for a fish with such a big gaping mouth. I think her personality comes out more and more every day so maybe I will come up with a name soon!

It sound like you have proud molly there! Always looking at her reflection :) She also sounds a bit like a queen too, going into the one doors of the mosque.
Why don't you name her Colista? The meaning of this name is "Most Beautiful" :D
Or what about Charisse? That names means grace, beauty and kindness
...there is also Calla, Callia or Callie which all mean either Beauty or Beautiful!

Those are some great suggestions!! I really like Callia!! I think that will be her new name.

I just went and told her her new name and she was mouthing something at me through the glass. It looked like she said "You may call me Miss Callia. I would like to have my breakfast now."

Thanks, Guppylover!

it looks like it has a gonopodium, the male part

Oh, I wasn't really sure how to tell if it was male or female. I guess if it is a boy I could still call him Cal. I will have to research the word you are talking about, wrs, especially if I want to raise fry. Thanks for the tip!
