HEY EVERYONE..! :)

I've just got 4 albino african clawed frogs in their own tank (no fish)- they are sooo cute! :p I was just wondering about general stuff -
I'm feeding them frozen bloodworms (1 a day). Is that enough/too often ?
What other things do they like to eat?
Also - how big do they grow to when they are full size? What is the average age they live until?
Do I need to be aware of anything in particular ? I've read on the forum that the males 'sing' -is this only when they are mating ??
Are there any 'treats' I can get for them?? They are such good fun to watch - very funny!!
--Thanks!!

Hi, Welcome to the forum

How big are your frogs at the minute, my adfs eat a lot more than 1 bloodworm per day and they are only an inch long.
They will eat all kinds of live and frozen foods, acfs will also eat fish. Your frogs will grow up to 5 inches long and can live for over 15 years as they start getting bigger they will need a much bigger tank, if any grow larger than the others they may cannibalise each other. Have a read of the pinned topic at the top of the page for more info.

ps. as a side note i notice you have the following fish, the danio, penguin tetra, rummy nose tetra and hatchet fish should all be in groups of 6+ of the same variety, they will pine away and die living on their own and be skittish as they are shoaling fish, what sort of plec do you have as if its a common or sailfin it will grow 12-20 inches long and be too big for your tank so you may want to rehome it while its small. If you get over populated with guppies the frogs will eat them

Approx 10 Guppies (inc fry)
1 x Red Platy
1 x Pleco
1 x Zebra Danios
1 x Gold Gourami
5 x Neon Tetras
1 x Penguin Tetra
1 x Rummy Nosed Tetra
1 x Marble Hatchet

Hi, thanks for the info.
My frogs are tiny at the moment (about half the size of your little finger-or perhaps even less!)
Basically, I've had them for 3 days. The pet shop told me to give them 1 bloodworm a day but they are not nearly 'finishing it off'. I feed them in the morning (around 8am) and I can check back again about 11pm at night and there will still be about 70% of the 'worm cube' left at the bottom of the tank. I am thinking at this rate it will start causing a problem with waste in the water. I have seen them 'stuffing their faces' with the food in a morning after putting it in, so I know they are not starving but I think they are a bit too small yet to consume 1 per day... or so it would seem. I thought perhaps after 10/20 minutes the whole thing would be eaten up , but no...
Do you think I should maybe try it every other day??? Im a bit worried as you said yours eat a lot more than 1 bloodworm per day. Perhaps I should get some other things to try and feed them up a bit!

The pet shop told me they would eat other small fish (hence why they are in a tank of their own) but I didn't realise they would cannibalise each other!! GROSS!! I will check out the pinned topics at the top of the page about all this stuff - thanks...

Yes, those fish I have in the other tank that you mentioned.... - I initially started with groups of 5 of each of them, but one by one they have all died off (over a 2 year period or so). My tank is looking pretty busy now with all the guppies laying fry all the time which is why Im a bit hesitant as to getting any more of those types in order to keep them in groups.
I actually mentioned the 'plec scenario' to the pet shop when I was there getting my frogs... about him getting quite big for the tank. They said that they would take him off my hands and replace him with a baby one for me instead. I might have to do it soon as I dont want to cramp him amongt all the other fish (and ornaments) in the tank. He's about half the length of a mousemat!! -if that helps!! I dont know what kind of plec he is -basically just a very dark one -no particular markings or anything unusual?? Just a 'bog standard /common' one I guess ?
I couldnt face getting rid of any of the guppies by means of putting them in with the frogs though..!!! URGH !! :p
I think rehousing the plec is a good idea since all the guppies keep appearing every few months. I feel a bit mean about the single tetras and hatchets though :( The hatchets seem to have a silly habit of throwing themselves above the inside lid of the tank (no idea how they manage it!!) to an untimely death .. Is it really really bad for them to stay on their own until I sort out rehousing Mr Plec... ??? Thanks :D
PS - going back to the food situation for the ACFs - what seem to be the 'favourite' food of theirs? I will look into other things besides those minging bloodworms ...!!! What do they seem to enjoy eating the best??! ;)

african clawed frogs are predators and will eat anything they can grab you may be ok keeping four together yet you may find the smaller ones become meals they will eat live or dead fish and need more than one bloodworm a day.
