Gday All,

OK, so I am starting my first Nano tank, and am after some advice....

I currently have a 16L (4.2 US gal) 200mm x 200 mm x 400mm tank which has been sitting around not doing much. Here is a bad pic of it all packed up at the moment:

I am planning to use some very interesting volcanic rocks I got from the beach as the centrepeices which are currently in my existing aquarium (the one on the front left below and the one at the back corner. Ignore the rock at the front, it is holding down the driftwood  ):

My inspiration is this next tank and I plan to achieve something similar with riccia and japonica, perhaps with an anubis mounted on the larger rock:

But it is 57L aquarium.....

Lighting i plan to use one of these off ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Free-Angle-Aquarium...1QQcmdZViewItem

The filter will be a HOB filter, probably this one: Elite Hush 5 http://www.reptiledirect.com/index.asp?Pag...amp;ProdID=1016

To start I want to put some shrimp in from a local creek, then maybe 2 dwarf corys and an oto. I will be doing a DIY CO2 setup.

My questions are:

1. Is the japonica going to be too large for this aquarium? If so is there an alternative plant to get the same effect?
2. Will 2.6 WPG be enough to grow the japonica?
3. Is the filter appropriate?
4. Does anyone know a lfs in Sydney Australia that sells riccia (perferably dwarf variety)?

I apologise for the long post, but I would appreciate any input! Will also be good to see how many Aussies are lurking around here!

I'm not an expert, but It seems that you are tring to acheve in a square tank a retangle design. The inspration tank is amazing, however one might look around at some other designs 1st, especially since you are planing on using a completely different type of stone.

Thanks iroc, I can see exactly what you are saying, you are spot on. I just got the idea in my head that the rocks were nice, and the inspiration tank in nice, and I could just merge the two!

Cound anyone shed some light on the other queries?
