Well, here goes. I've had a tank of neon tetras and red fin tetras for five years and all has gone very well with no problems whatsoever. It is a forty gallon octagonal tank with 8-10 neons and four red fin tetras. Six weeks ago, the neons started to disappear or die. I noticed that some of the red fin tetras were beginning to act very aggressively and got rid of them. I put in four new black tetras and the neons still continued to die about three days after replacing them. I got rid of the black tetras too. I did two 50% water replacements in a week and added some aquarium salt. I sterilized all filter and plants. Things seemed to quiet down with no deaths ocuring. I added some rosboros (?), six of em, and my tetras all died again. My water tests fine and it did also test fine at Petsmart. No sign of any water imbalance. The tetras show no sign of diseases although they just seem to lose all energy and hover with little movement before giving up the ghost. At this point I have six rosboros and two catfish left. Is there some sort of malady that can affect only the tetras? Can anybody help with a suggestion here? Water temp at 74-75 degrees.

Thanks.

What are your actual water readings for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH?

There is neon tetra disease but don't know enough about it to advise you about it. Hold fire and someone on here will put you right I'm sure.
