I was a LFS last weekend looking for some fish for my newly cycled desktop tank (36L half hex) and they had a deal on bumblebee gobies, so we got three, 2 for my new tank and 1 for the wifes. As there had been a little fighting going on between the two in my tank I offered my 4yo to swap the 2 swordtails in his 75L bowfront tank to my 40Gallon (the redtail chasing the male may of been unsettling for his chocolate gourami's) and he he could have one the gobies, which he now calls with much enthuisiasm in his vioce "my nemo fishie"
I was at my five year old cousins' birthday last weekend and she was giving us a guided tour of the house. One of her little friends mentioned that her mum had just got some 'pretty little fishies'. So my cousins' eyes light up and she says, 'I have a fishie too!' She leads us all to her room where she has quite a nice little betta tank set up. 'This is Bubbles.... he's a betta fish.' she tells us.
The little girl who'd first mentioned fish burst into tears. 'He is not!' She thought my cuz had said 'He's a better fish.' (than yours.)
Bit weird how little kids get all their fish names from Finding Nemo....
I've not found anything about swords in brackish water. I've not long returned to the hobby and would be curious to know about the gobys as I'd love to put some in my 20g(UK) tank but it's freshwater.
I've been informed from a few sources that there are fresh water varients of bumblebees, and the guy at the LFS said that these were fine in a fresh water tank but like most (but not all) fresh water fish a little salt goes a long way for them.
Katchan
PS i think swordies are fine for brakish if accalimatised (sp? way off ) as they are becoming major pest species in brisbane waterways
Part of what you said just clicked splish, he hasnt named his nemo (he hasnt named any of them actually) he's just likening a "small, fat, & three striped fish" as being very similar to a clown fish. Like many kids I think he'd like a clown, but if and when i get my marine tank I dont think I'll get a clown as it would become food to quickly for the lionfish I want
