Hi!

I have woken up this morning to find my Moor Fish (3 years old) on the bottom of the tank and leaning really far on his side - almost properly on his side. He doesnt seem to be breathing much either. he will have his mouth open a little bit,but the gills dont move - and then all of a sudden he will take a big gulp of air, and then nothing. almost as if he is holding his breath.

He has had cloudy eye for just over a week now, and i have been giving him treatment advised to me by staff in the aquatic shop. He has been doing absolutly fine - the condition is still there as i have been told that it will take a good few weeks to clear - but he seemed to be dealing with it kind of thing.

I was wondering whether he could be like this because of his cloudy eye, or because of swim bladder? although he has had swim bladder before, but has never looked in sich a bad way as today.

The tank size is 22 Litres.
I do a 50% (sometimes a bit more) water change every two weeks.
i am unsing interpet Anti Internal Bacteria treatment for his cloudy eye.
I am unsure of the nitrate etc in the water as i have a basic filter. i was hoping to send a water sample to the pet shop, but they are closed so will have to wait. I use Easy Balance and aqua safe water treatments, and also aquarium salt.

Thank you in advancefor you help.

22L isn't enough for one goldfish. Atleast 40l each is minumum, the reason he may be displaying problems is due to tank size, less water = water to pollute quicker = more ammonia.
Would you be able to buy a bigger tank?
Whats the water stats?
Changing the water of 50% every 2 weeks is not enough, in a tank of that size it needs changing every few days, if not every day.
He may have been fine in the past in that tank, but now its really showing whats happening.

Minimum for a fancy goldfish like a black moor is 20gal with a lot of filteration, plus 10 gal for each fancy after that.

I suggest you post in the emergency section - Wilder can work wonders :)

Sorry, yes jonty is right. I don't know where my head was then lol!
I started in a 25l tub, and now i've learnt how much they need so i'm getting a 125l for christmas, which fits in with 20g per fish and 10g for every fish added after lol!
Yes, wilder is brilliant!

thank you guys for your help.
unfortunatly, he died this morning which is rather gutting :-(
