Last night while I was out my silver molly started to have babies. I was only out for an hour and a half and there were no babies when I went out, I have been constantly checking because she has been getting fatter and fatter.

Anyway, I arrived just in time to see one of the poor mites being chased and then swallowed whole by one of my angelfish.

I got out my net and my breeding trap and caught 3 more of them. That is all I caught, I saw no other babies being eaten and so far - nearly 24 hours later - she has had no more.

I get the feeling I may have come in too late and more of them were eaten.

She still looks quite plump as if there may be more in there.

The 3 surviving fry are still doing well altough the angels keep knocking the breeding trap to try and get at them.

Can anyone give me the best advice on what to do know. What best to feed them, how long to keep them in there, and wether or not they thinnk the mother may have more.

Many thanks

Females are always going to look a bit fat, even after they've had their fry, as they usually have embryos at different stages developing inside them, which will of course make them look a bit fat. It's really hard to say if she'll have more or not, as I can't see the fish and I don't know her birthing patterns. Probably not, but you never know.

For your other questions, take a look in the pinned topics and the FAQs. If you have any questions after that, feel free to ask away. :)

She'll probably have another batch in about a month. Females can store sperm for up to 6 batches of fry.

I had better get myself prepared for that then !!!!!
