Please help my mollies have had babies. I've separated them using a sieve(i know sounds silly but its all i had). The adult mollies can't get to them but i am stuck on what to do i have had six mollies that i think are a cross between a white molly and Dalmation molly. Could you please help me out with how much i am supposed to feed them, how old do they have to be before you let them in with the others and basic information about how long it takes for a molly to give birth and just stuff like that. Thankyou x

Mollies like other liverbearers can have a batch of fry once a month or so. You can feed your fry finely crushed flake food, or you can buy fry food from the LFS. Also I find that boiled egg yolk grows the fry out pretty quick, it can be messey though so only use small amounts. But if you are interested in that method me or someone else can described the process. But like I said, you can just crush up flake food into powder and I use a turkey baster to squirt the powder in near the fry. The best way to raise the fry is to remove them to a tank of their own, but I have raised livebearers fry without even seperating the fry from the parents. More plants you have the better, espcially floating plants, as the fry hide in them. I have found after a week of the fry hiding the parents dont bother them.

Thanks for the help the thing is i dont really have any floting plants in my tank and cant afford to buy another tank. If i'd had been told mollies bread alot then i would of been more carful buying them. I think it's a bit of a problem having to females and a male so i won't no what to do with them all my aquarium isnt that big so i no i can't keep them but thanks for the advice and i'll do as you said about the food.

What size is your tank? If you don't want to be over run with fry, just leave the fry in with the parents to let them fend for themselves.

I don't know what size the tank is exactaly. I think i might sell or give the babies away to family i do know a few good homes to take them to i might even give a few to the pet shop. I don't relly want to let them into the tank as i don't have that many hidding spots and they won't be as safe i only have six anyway but I now i will be getting more. Should i get rid of my male to stop this from happening?.

You can take out the male or just let the fry be and if some survive they do and if they don't they don't.

Agreed with all that Fish Guy has said. Mollies and guppies are so easy to breed that if you just leave them be you'll have more babies than you'll know what to do with. I just let mine deliver in the community tank and always some survive. I grind up regular flake food into nearly a powder to feed them.

They're surprisingly clever and very curious. I have a great time watching them. And after the very first batch I had, I quit worrying too much about them!
