but this is what you have to take into account when buying bettas, if you want them to strive and be healthy Synirr said:There's no need to change the water more than once a week in a 1+ gallon tank. I recently tested the water in a couple of my betta tanks on water change day and the ammonia was extremely low, well away from any level that might cause stress.
The film at the top is commonly believed to be bacteria and/or dust buildup. It happens in stagnant water, no big deal.
