Well, after having to get blood drawn for a medical, getting completely lost and taking well over an hour to get home it was about time I got lucky!
Stopped into a petco to pick up a female blue ram for my male and they had two left in a tank. Last time I was in there (about a week ago) they had quite a few, but most were looking really bad. This pair of females looked healthy, one was dominating the other. Said I'd take one, and when he came to price it up for me he couldn't find the label for the code. So he priced it as a firemouth cichlid - $1.48. Nice!
Got the little girl home, she was very stressed, was quite worried but she went and hid for a bit. As soon as the guy saw her he flared his fins, showing off and she was quite receptive. Even stuck to him a little when he swam away. Left the light off for them, checked on them later, she ate some shrimp, looking happier but still shy. She spotted him, wagged her tail at him, waited for him to respond then swam off. Was a cool show. My last female was never this into the male, she just kinda was with him because of the hell of it i guess! This time, she definitely digs him!
