Hello.
I read that for a molly to be happy and give birth etc etc they need at least 10 - 15 gallons of water. Is this true? My molly is in my 5 gallon. I thought that would have been enough. I set it up so she's already in the breeder tank to have her babies (which I can't tell when she's due).

My plattie. It's the orange colour which apparantly doesn't get a gravid spot. I've asked this before. but if she doesn't get a gravid spot, how do I know if she's due? I don't know if it's her first birth, but if it is, that means she won't have as many fry, correct???? So she wouldn't get as fat would she????
She doesn't like it in the 5 gallon so I put her back in the 40 g. But I don't want to lose all my fry. WOuld it be better to put her in the 5 gallon. If she seems stressed, which she does when she's in there. What do I do. Can I calm her. Could she abort becoz of this?? Would she be happier with another male or a female with her in the 5 gallon ( I've got another fat one). OR would she be happy as her own of her kind.

If anyone can give me answers to these questions, I really would be grateful. I want some fry!!!!!!!

to see it she's prego u can check to c if she looks squareish. i dunno who told u orange plattys dont get gravid spots but their wrong. if shes along in a 5g she should do ok but if shes used to haveing companie she probably might be a lil stressed. id tell u to give her a lil friends but 2 fish in a 5g might not work out. i woul just move the breeder to ur 40g in the company of the other fish and after the fry are born move them to ur 5g. ;)

Guppy dude. thanks for all your help!!!!
There was a question from csr mel and a couple of the answering people said that guppies the colour of his (the same colour as mine) don't get gravid spots. This made me think that maybe my platties might be due.
They're dark orange, with black fins and tail.
If they do get gravids, i'll stop panicking.
I think I will leave them in big tank. I can't really put more fish in my 5 gallon, and if heaps of big fish are in there, it kind of defeats the purpose of having it, doesnt it.
Thankyou for your help again tho.
Do you know about the Molly needing more water than my 5 gallon? She's definately settled down a lot but I still don't wanna stress her out.
thanks.

well if shes doin ok in the 5g and isnt stressed out dont mess with its fine the way it is. u dont have to remove her or add more fish unless she seems to be unhappy.

Thankyou. Again. :hey:
You seem to reallyknow your stuff.

mollies are happy in a big aquarium but mine gave birth in a 2 gallon.just try too keep up on waterchanges and feed nutricious food and stuff she likes.GL  ;)

Your fish may well get gravid spots (the darkness is the fry inside her) but if she is a dark colour you might not be able to see it. My swordtails get distinct black patches when they are pregnant, the sunset platies get a darker area, and the red platies , and red wagtail platies (sounds like what you have) get nothing, simply because their colour is too dark to see through.

Hope that helps, and she probably is due, our platies seem to be permanently pregnant! :)

Hi.
Do you know of anything "nutritious" that I can make myself??
The blood worms and all that kinda stuff is really expensive and I can't afford it. So is there anything I can give her and the other pregnant fish that is healthy and yummy?
I've only got Nutrafin Flake food at the moment and I put blanched brocoli and stuff in for my plecos which everyone has a nibble of. Is the vege good for livebearers? Would a bit of meaty stuff be good?
Thanks for any advice you can share :D

yes flake will do veggies are very good for olivebearers.do you have spirulina flake?that will do good too.just feed her well and she wont eat her babies
