My Little Story From Today...

Okay, so my mission today to find a new betta boy with a different tail type than VT and also with pretty colors. Well, I found him. But my story is about something that happened in the quest for him.

I went to a bunch of different places, 5 to be exact. I went to the first place twice because that is where they had my new boy. I went to the other 4 places just to be sure they didn't have any that I liked better (or that were cheaper). Well, at the second to last place, PetCo, I was looking at all the different fish. When I went over to where they keep the bettas, there was a little boy and a little girl. As I was walking up the boy (probably between 4 and 6 years old) picked up one of the betta cups and started to violently shake it!!! I hurried up as fast as I could (I was carrying my 19 month old daughter and the diaper bag) and grabbed the fish from him. I told him, "FISH DO NOT LIKE IT WHEN YOU DO THAT. IT IS ALIVE YOU KNOW!" And I put the fish back on the shelf. The kid ran off, probably to find his equally evil parent(s).

I was so mad. I stayed a few minutes longer to make sure fish was swimming okay and everything. I wanted to beat that kid in the head.

This is why they shouldn't keep the bettas within the reach of children.
One time I was in Walmart with some friends and one jokingly dared his girlfriend to shake one of the bettas, not thinking she'd actually do it... well she did, and I verbally tore her a new one. She was 15-ish at the time, so she had no excuse, she knew better.

Well, I don't think that this kid even had an excuse to do what he did. He should not have been away from his parents. He was WAY to young to be off on his own! And he should have known better anyway. I mean...duh fish are ALIVE!!! Alive means it feels. I wanted to put my daughter down, pick up that boy and start shaking him. little jerk.

Grr... although the kid should have known better to start with, you can only imagine what his parents must be like if those are the values they teach him.

I have a happy story though: my friends and I were at the plaza shopping before we saw a movie. We went into the pet store so my friends could check out the puppies and kittens and I could see the fish. A woman and her son (aged about 6) were near the bettas and the boy was looking at them, when a staff member asked the boy if he wanted to 'ask his mummy for a fish'.

'You get the containers with them! They're the containers they like to live in.' the woman said. The little guy put his hands on his hips, scowled and said, 'No thankyou. Mummy said this store is bad and I think you don't look after the fish.' And he walked off to look at kittens.

Needless to say the mother apologised, was embarrassed and denied saying that. (Bet she did though, the store is awful).

Would've been proud if it was my kid.

I like to think im a little more knowledgable than the shop keepers round here. They told me i needed a 100 Watt heater and a fluval2+ for a AZOO tub tank (ya know those litle ones that say "Great for a betta and companions!" needless to say i sat there and said. Well firstly i wouldnt need a 100 watt heater for a 10 gallon tank let alone half a gallon and i wouldnt want a fuval 2 in such a small tank as bettas hate currents. The lady just loked at me and said, well do what you want but im the one working in a fish store..

Wow, I wouldve knocked that kid down in the floor and continued to kick him until he pucked up his lungs...or i wouldve slapped him on his hand and asked him where his parents where and then told them what he did. Little bastard.
