It started to flicker on and off by itself. As it was late, I flicked the overide switch on my timer to turn it off a couple of hours early. I am planning to buy a new bulb after work today but I've just realised that the old bulb is all still plugged in and will come on at 2 o'clock today and I would guess start flicking on and off. Is this going to massively stress my fish out for a few hours til I get home and sort it out?

depends if you've any fish that are particularly skittish and how long it'll be on like that for.

it's possible that it'll stress them out, but it's also possible (and fairly likely) that the bulb will only flicker for a little while and then just turn itself off, or alternativley it may be fine when it turns back on (did this with our Metal Halide last week, it was due to be changed soon and the bulb started flickering, so turned it off, ordered a new bulb from ebay for £20 cos we can't gte them locally, then 2 days later flicked the switch for it by mistake and it turned back on and has been working fine since. doh!)

i wouldn't overly concern yourself with it, if it is flickering when you get back then leave the tank in darkness overnight and don't feed

Thanks Miss Wiggle.

As always good advice. I just wanted some reassurance :good:

It'll probably be for about 3 hours but as you say, I'm sure it will either come on fine or give up the ghost and turn off after a short while.
