i got this little fella from work today. he wasnt ordered with our usual stock but rather he was picked up by my boss when she went to the markets. he was one of two and originally was only going to be something different to look at in the shop but i convinced my boss to let me have one. he's a cutey :)

is he just a kuhli loach or is he called a striped kuhli loach?

yup, i agree with wolf,

nice little fish, ive heard they like to be kept in groups though, maybe see if you can get a couple more? otherwise he might be really shy :good:

yeah im actually thinking i might bring the other one home tomorrow. i bought one and then got home and realised i should have just got the two. dont know why i didnt to be honest. but because they were shy i thought they might not need to live with any others of their kind then read up on them when i got home and found out they did.

he/she seems to like it. has buried itself in the sand under a rock :) was sucking on an algae wafer before :) how can i tell if its male or female?

I've got four of them, they're adorable little buggers. They were extremely active the first few days until they settled in under the bogwood, now they spend most of their time hiding but they'll come out at feeding time and play in the bubbles when they think nobody's looking. I've heard that they're very easy to breed but haven't really looked into it. They can be little pests though, make sure that you keep your tank well covered as they will jump out and check your filter regularly, I've had mine go up the intake and hang out in the filter. I have to do a loach count every time I do a water change.

Cute! I used to have around 8 but now they've all died and I'm down to one that's like 3-4years old in my 29g with some cories. I wanna get more but they're always so expensive and very few around here. But I've had my kuhlis that held too many eggs, screwed up their spine and couldn't swim and died because of the deformity, and I had 3 other ones that also had eggs but just died eventually.

oh wow! does that happen if they retain their eggs? scary  i paid $5 each for mine cause thats what my boss bought them for and didnt charge me any extra. maybe you could try asking your lfs if they could order them in if you cant find them.

i bought home the second one today that is a little bigger than the first but they have met up again and seem to be happy together :) theyre soo cute and wiggly :p
