:hyper: Hi everyone!!!!
Like 5 minutes ago i was feeding my kribs and i look at the female and she has this kind of tube by her bottom. Its not very big but you can see it.I know she not taking a poo lol. What is it?

Thanks:Garett

Most likely a breeding tube, indicating that she is ready to breed. You should see eggs, or spawning behaviour in the next 2-3 days

Oh Yes!!!!! This will be my first cichlid will breed!!!im so excited. When i came home it was alittle bigger.

So anyway i have a few questions if its not a bother.

1. Can i keep the male with the female and fry?
2.Will my other cichlids eat them?(1" green severum & a Festivum 3")
3.How long will the tube get?

Thanks:Garett

1. Yes
2. Yes, they most likely will take a liking to the fry.
3. at the most, 1/8 of an inch. Sometimes a bit longer.

OMG!!!!! My kribs were spawning when i went to my bedroom!!!!
Shes sooo skinny now lol!
Thankyou for answering my question i will use the divider or something
How long will it be for the eggs to hatch???

Thanks!Garett

Congrats! If the eggs are fertile, they will hatch in 2 -3 days. Then they will be in the "wriggler" stage. THey cannot swim in this stage, they only wriggle around. In 2-3 days into this stage, they will start swimming, and can then accept food.

ive separeted the other cichlids with a divider and they seem to be doing fine.
A cant seem to see the eggs though cause i think the spawned in the corners of the caves!
Are the eggs usually really small???
And i dont get y my female krib is still courting to my male..?
But the male is the one in the cave more not the female is that natural?

Thanks:Garett

Thanks im so excited!!! Will they move the nonswimming fry around? into the open? or no?
How many fry do you think ill have lol i know you'll probibly wont know that haha but still she was about medium size i think.

Thanks:Garett

Since this is her first batch, maybe 50, if your lucky. As they get older, they lay more eggs. They usually move the fry from the spot they hatch at. It all depends on the fish.

When breeding you will see them in both in bright breeding colours and see the female swim up to the male and quiver just in front of him and try to lead him to where she has decided to lay. It’s almost like she is saying " well come on big boy!" This lasts a couple of days. During this time she will visit the chosen laying site several times to clean the surface or re- arrange gravel in preparation for the eggs.

Look at the female carefully. If you see a small tube extending from her anal area then she is ready to lay the eggs. When she thinks that the male is ready she will lay the eggs (between 50 - 300 eggs) and entice the male to fertilize the eggs. After he has done his deed he will then stand guard to ward off any fish that comes too close. Meanwhile the female will stay with the eggs fanning water over them. She will stay there until the fry have hatched (between 3 to 7 days ) and the fry are free swimming (6-10 days)and they are strong enough to swim about on their own. Sometimes a parent will move fry to a different area in the tank by holding the fry gently in the parent’s mouth.

Kribensis fry are large enough to take finely crushed flake food, and will also feed on tiny insuforia in a mature tank. The mother also spits out small bits of food while she is feeding herself for them.

Watch for any aggression between the breeding pair. The only time you may need to remove a fish from the tank is if the parents begin aggressively fighting with each other. If this occurs, it is possible for one or both of the adults to become injured.

Ok thanks, they only nipp sometimes . not too major.
Is it normal for the parents to sleep outside of the cave too that they layed the eggs in?

Thanks:Garett

oh ok thanks.
They are really protective especially when the other get close to the other side of the divider.
its cool i can see them inside the cave fanning the eggs but i still cant see the eggs lol.
When will that tube from the female go away?
