Hello, i brought 2 kribs a month or so ago (male and female) male was slightly smaller than the female, and she was always dominant chased him everytime he came out so he normally stayed under a bit of wood at the back of the tank, but since yesterday hes turned into the dominant one and chasing her but she doesnt recluse still swims around the whole tank untill she bumps into him, ive seen her swimming side on to him presenting her red belly a few times which is a sign of her wanting to breed or something ive read,

anyone know why there was a sudden shift in dominance?

thanks

Takes them a while to settle in - also just because you put a male and female in doesnt mean they will pair up - females can be picky. Sounds as though your female has finally decided she likes him after all - once they pair up it will be for life so dont add any more kribs or there will be fisticuffs! Look out for him shaking his body at her - that will be a sign that they are a true pair - he wont necessarily do this when she does!May take a while if hes not mauture enough so dont get despondent

The original problem with behavior was most likely because the male was smaller than the female. Females are very picky, and they bully, a lot. So, if the female is stronger than the male, then it will never work out. But, it appears the male is now up to the challenge. Just sit back and relax, they will breed soon.

Well still no change in the behaviour, only time he doesn't chase her is when im feeding them, and i'm starting to wonder weather its worth trading him in for a new one, she always presents herself to him side on when they see each other he just looks for a second then chases her away, sometimes just loosing interest all together. I've never kept kribensis before so i dunno but it seems like he just doesn't want to accept her and shes a lovely looking fish and i hate her always hiding round by the filter
