My Khuli Loach Has Lost Its Stripes

Look around the seriouslyfish site for a discussion of this. Basically there is no export from the place where "true" p.kuhlii is.

personally, I think this is even worse: striped kuhlis are likely several species, and we will not know for a fact until someone does a DNA study of specimens from different locales. Comparisons against web photos of p.kuhlii or p.semicincta are not going to be productive.

p.oblonga usually have lighter bellies, but the color also changes in females depending on the presence of eggs. Likewise striped kuhli bellies tint green when they are full of eggs.

Cool, thanks. I'll stop calling my guys p.kuhlii then and just deal with not really knowing what's what. Thanks for enlightening me! I only really noticed that one of my oblonga's has a lighter belly because the other one doesn't. If I were to guess, I think I have all males. Once I get my 20 gallon back up and running, I'm hoping to either move them over and add some more, or get an entirely new colony. They seem to really like my current tank though, despite it not being very big.

Mine are darker in colour than this but the pattern is the same, i am assuming this is because mine are still small? will try to get some pictures but there quite shy of the camera

....sooo... you want to send me some??? ;) I've never in my life seen one before. I have a similar looking one, but without the pattern:

He's not the same thing, but I'm sure he'd like some panda buddies. I also like the look of albino myersi:

Top photo shows -- I believe -- Pangio anguillaris, not P.oblonga.

or because the locale is different, or because the substrate is different. Slightly darker coloration is usually not significant.

Yeah, I have two oblonga, two striped kuhlis, and one anguillaris (the top photo).
