My Keyholes

Hey all a little advice required i have a pair of keyholes in my 3ft 35g community tank all of my water stats are fine but my keyholes seem to turn very dark sometimes in the morning when i turn the lights on is this due to stress as it changes back in the matter of minutes sometimes seconds any ideas

yeah, sounds like stress, Youd be stressed aswell is someone turned the light on when your sleeping

Lots of fish will change colors while they sleep.. they usually get quite dull... keyholes will often wake up with lots of black/dark brown on them... within 15 minutes they should be mostly tan colored again.

vancouver thats exactly whats happening are they ok am i just being paranoid just there my fav fish and i want them to be happy

Mine do it everyday.. wake up with lots of black on them... sometimes in the day too I've seen black on them... usually when they're flaring at other fish.. If they are black all the time they're probably not happy, but if it's just in the morning, or a few times a day, it shouldn't be a big deal.

It's very normal, nothing to worry about. Mine do it in the morning, during water changes and any other time they are frightened or stressed, it's a defensive measure.

keyholes are a really shy species. How often do you see this coloration?
