Please can you advise me?

I have 2 very healthy Juruapri, but since I have had them in September, they have not grown at all - please advise.

they are on their own in a 260 litre fluval tank

what is their current size?
what are you feeding? and how often?

How odd
How many and what % water changes?
Maybe offer them some bloodworm every now and then.

Their diet should consist of live foods (i.e., black worms, chopped earthworms), vegetables and fruits, in addition to the basic flake and pellet foods. Variety is the spice of life as they say :good: Spirulina and earthworm flake are both excellent dry foods.

Another thing that will help is to increase the water changes, change 50% of the water per week- twice a week if you have the time.

50% 2 times a week? Seem's like to much. Wouldnt that be stressful?

In a way I agree with you. But there are ways to change water with minimal stress, i.e don't vacuum the substrate just get the water out and then use a water pump to put it back in. Some Discus keepers I know change 50% per day and their Discus are in top health. Me personally, I change 75% twice per week in my young Discus tanks and 50% per week in all other tanks. Water changes does effect growth and health, the more the better usually. But I agree with you that stress while water changing should be minimized, the water change water I use has been heated, declorinated and an air pump has been on it overnight.

On Discus I know Huge and frequent WC is a must, but for species like the geophagus, I would do a 50% WC and variety of foods especially treats like worms and maybe live would definitely speed up the growth....I also read somewhere that the jurupari are a bit of a slow growers, I just recently purchase 3 4.5" and I would like to know if anyone here have kept them until their max size of 10" and how long did it take to get there...thanks....

I've had my jurupari for about 2 years. I bought them when they were about 2 inches and now they are getting close to 7-8". They are definitely slower growers than other SA cichlids, like oscars. They go through a growth spurt at about 4 inches and get to about 6 and slow down again after that.

Mine feed on earthworms, chopped shrimp, hikari sinking pellets, shrimp pellets, algae tablets (that are really for the plecs), bloodworm and brine shrimp.

Good luck!
