i bought 2 guppys today 1 male and 1 female.
the female has a large black spot by her bum
i think shes pregnat but she doesnt look nececerely fat.
is this normal
i have heared that5 they take a while to get fat but still get the black spot
before.
am i right.
thanks

the black spot you are refering to is called a gravid spot, if the gravid spot is a dark brown or black, and the fish looks like her stomach is squaring off, this means she is pregnant, anything else you need to know?

oh and can i just add, you should buy another 2 females, because the rule for livebearers is, 3 females to every 1 male, just so that the 1 male doesn't stress the 1 female, so if you have 3 females he wont just be around the 1 female.

Yeah, they will always have that black spot/gravid spot, when they get really huge like guppy man said, than thats when they are preggers, other than that, my 2 month old baby guppy has a black spot and she isnt preggo!

i have 2 males now but i think there turning gay lol.
there breeding with eachother and my male sword tail is getting harrased lol.
what should i do.
o and by the way there are no such thing as rules in the fish breeding industry
i once managed to have fry with 4 males and 1 female guppy
and also i had 2 male plattys and 1 female platty and i managed to breed them ok.
i dont believe in rules.
thanks

Sometimes my boys try to mate with other boys too lol
As for rules, they arent saying that you wont have fry from having more males than females, it just stresses the females out sometimes, which can cause them to abort, or just plain die.

i know i fully respect that but im just wondering when will my male/s breed with her and turn strait.
lol
thanks
also my dalmation mollies are pregenant
yay :hyper:

So they "managed" to have fry...I'm sure you could "manage" to live in a closet without food for a week, but would it be good for you? No. Would you like it? No. These fish are in your hands, provide them with the best care possible. Do them a favor and give them the right ratio.

The reason your males are "breeding" and being aggressive with each other is because they are frustrated from the lack of females. They aren't "Gay" as you put it.

Edit: Searching back over your posts, you've had a lot of trouble with fish not dropping fry. Your ratio is why this is happening.
